Social Responsibility? / Re: Does Street Photographers Have A Social Responsibility?

Depends actually on what the person thinks. Some street photographer do it for the fun and don't think by it. They are sometimes more focused on the individual then socially.

My own personal oppinion? Well, let's say I'm not quite sure about it :P

I would say that your attitude and reaction were very appropriate in the situation. Parents and grandparents were in their right too :).

Thank you Aristos. I found it the right thing to do! Before they would have done something horrible as smash my camera :P

Well I think if the person doesn't notice it then it isn't a problem really. However when a person notices it and seems that he does mind that you take a picture of him then I guess you should show him/her the picture and tell what why you are doing this.

This happened to me yesterday, I took a picture of a child (boy) who was letting a artist make a cartoon sketch of him. I took a few pictures of the boy and the artist and walked away. When suddenly a angry father and grandmother came to me to ask me why I took a picture of her grandson and his son. I told him what I did, that I was a amateur street photographer and found it nice combination since the sketch was pretty funny. Even so the  father and grandmother asked me to delete the picture and so I did. Making sure that they were watching with me as I deleted the pictures. I can understand perfectly with all those crazy and dirty wacko's running around. If I had a child and somebody would take a picture of him/her then I would have done the same thing. :)

So I guess if you are making picture's you should be extra carefull about childeren. They are a very sensitive subject.~

Perhaps I'm just paranoid.... but I worry about the security of the images posted here. It was easy to copy and save your Waiting for Henri image, so we may be limited to very small (and thus rather useless for other people) files.... Just food for thought.

Bill

Thanks, Bill.

I have stopped speculating about that. If people want to "steal" my images it is they who have a problem, not I. I think, however,  that images are much better protected here than on fb, but I cannot use that argument much since I load to both systems.

What I am saying, really, is that I basically don't care, because I can't prevent it. If someone, on the other hand, started using my images commercially that would be another matter.

Look at it this way: If someone wants to download you images they must be pretty good, eh? Take it as a compliment :).

Thanks for responding.

Best
Knut
