The gallery section? I don't see one.

You should take a look at this forum, it could be inspirational: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/. ;)

P.S.: when I click on "quote" nothing happens, it loads forever.

Workflows / Re: Black and White Conversion
« Last post by images47 on October 06, 2011, 12:43:00 am »
I have evolved a digital image workflow using mostly Lightroom (LR) with some occasional help from PhotoShop Express (PSE).

1. Import the camera raw files and convert them to DNG. I have a preset that dials in basic sharpening and noise reduction, and a Metadata preset to add copyright, usage rights, etc., to all the images. I also have a renumbering preset to make my overall numbering scheme logical for me.
2. Add any caption or other metadata to the image.
3. Create a Virtual Copy of the image (this lets me go back to the color image easily).
4. Working on the Virtual Copy, I use HSL B&W for black and white conversions. This lets you use the various color sliders for effects similar to using color filters on a black and white film camera.
5. Use the Exposure, Recovery, Fill Light and Blacks sliders to set the overall tonal range.
6. Sometimes use the Clarity slider to add something like Unsharp Masking in PSE, or use negative values to create an interesting diffusion effect.
7. Modify the tone curve as necessary to get the tonal values the way I want them. This is a little like Ansel Adams Zone system.
7a. You might need to revisit all of the above adjustments to fine tune the image to your liking.
8. Export the image as a TIFF and/or JPG with whatever degree of compression and sizing you prefer. This depends on the ultimate use of the image (publication, a print or posting on line).

I highly recommend this book: "The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book", by Martin Evening. Should be available through Amazon.

Hope all of this helps rather than confuses....:)

Cameras / Re: Do I Need A Leica?

I'd really hate to see this discussion turn into an anti-Leica rant. As far as I'm concerned, anybody is quite welcome to hang a Leica around their neck, just like anybody is welcome to drive a Porsche. I appreciate the mechanical excellence in both cases, and if the owners can wring all of the potential out of them, that's great. If not, they have some wonderful jewelry... :)

I appreciate anyone's input on the equipment they are using - not to be judgmental  but simply because I'm curious. Who knows, we all might pick up an idea or two in the process....

I've used dozens of cameras for my personal and professional shooting. At the moment, I shoot with Olympus cameras - E1, E3, E-P1 and a variety of lenses and other gear because it's either useful or just fun to play with. All of these give me files that are just fine on the web, in publications and for 11x14 (about 28x36cm) prints.

well what about the ricoh gx1 with the a12 mount , which will accept m-mount lenses it as a 12.3 million -pixels aps-cmos sensor , we know that the m9 is one off the most coverted cameras of our time , but with a price that exceeds the budget of most pros and amateur photographers , the ricoh is small and silent with a good size pixel count and sensor , for the price off 550 pounds sterling , then off course you need the lenses , but a far cheaper price off 5000 thousand pounds , and then the lenses , ??????
